Pasir Ris Sports and Recreation Centre (SRC) is having a Kids Awareness/Education Programme during the June Holiday. Children will get to learn about pool safety and understand the importance of the role of a Lifeguard and Pool Operator.
Gor Gor is so excited to be able to go to SRC and take part in its course. He always wonder how is it like being a life guard.
We are here at SRC.
Wow! Look at the big swimming pool.
I can’t wait to jump into the pool!
I am all ready to start my first lesson which is about the role of a pool operator. Sounds interesting doesn’t it? Each time when you go swimming, have you wondered how the pool is being maintained and what goes behind into making the pool water safe and clean? Gor Gor has the opportunity to learn and find out.
Pool operator, Mr John Lee demonstrates to the children how the water are being filtered, how to make it clean and safe for all to use.
Gor Gor learns how to test the pH to see how acid or alkaline the pool water is. This is important as the property of the water will affect the comfort of the swimmers and effectiveness of any chemical that are being added into the pool. Chemical like for example, chlorine is added to the pool to disinfect and remove germs.
The children are brought to the pool to test out the water. Gor Gor tested the water, yes, the pool is safe for swimming!
Our instructor also shows us how the water are being filtered with the giant pumps.
Next Gor Gor learns about the role of a life guard. Our instructor Dennis who is a senior life guard teaches the children how a life guard supervises and look out for the safety of the swimmers. How they use whistles to communicate, how to look out for swimmers who are in danger and how to rescue them. What are the dos and don’ts in the pool and how to keep safe when using the pool.
Our instructor also shows us what are the life saving equipment that are being used in the pool and how they are being used.
Hee hee … do I look like a cool life guard?
After attending the courses and playing at the pool, we headed to F&B outlets to fill our hungry stomachs. Pasir Ris Sports and Recreation Centre is huge and it has a wide range of F&B and retail outlets like McDonald’s, Pastamania, mrbean, once upon a milkshake and so on.
