Mediacorp’s highly anticipated adaptation of the hit South Korean mystery singer game show I Can See Your Voice! is set to premiere on 13 January 2025, promising a captivating mix of suspense, comedy, and spectacular stage acts, all in one. A fresh addition to Mediacorp’s diverse range of unscripted formats, the game show underscores the company’s commitment to delivering dynamic and quality entertainment for its audiences.
The show is hosted by Mediacorp 987 personality Joakim Gomez and Bloomr.SG MCN Exclusive Creator Munah Bagharib. This exciting 10-episode series features 60 mystery singers, handpicked through auditions conducted earlier this year. To avoid elimination by celebrity contestants, the mystery singers must either showcase exceptional singing skills or convincingly mask their lack of vocal talent. Meanwhile, celebrity contestants rely on intuition and deductive reasoning to assess the mystery singers’ abilities, eliminating the bad singers round by round, with the ultimate goal of retaining a good singer as the last person standing.
Adding to the excitement, a panel of resident celebrity detectives—including Benjamin Kheng, Gurmit Singh, Najip Ali, and Xixi Lim—alongside weekly guest celebrity detectives, will provide insights and commentary that can either assist or mislead celebrity contestants in their decisions.
Gurmit Singh, well-known for his illustrious career in Singapore’s entertainment industry, brings his unique charm and humor to this exciting variety program. Our editorial team spoke to resident celebrity detective Gurmit Singh, where he shared more about his latest project, I Can See Your Voice Singapore, the strategies he employs to identify good singers from bad ones, his parenting journey, and his aspirations for 2025.
Interview with Gurmit Singh, Resident Celebrity Detective of I Can See Your Voice Singapore
1) You have had a decorated career since you first joined the entertainment scene. Could you share some your career highlights?
Gurmit Singh: I started my career hosting a live variety TV show called Live on 5. From there, I went on to sing and appear in various TV shows and movies, including Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd, Singapore Idol, Tonight with Gurmit, Gurmit’s World, and Small Talk with Gurmit, among others.
2) You will be in I Can See Your Voice this January – can you share more about your involvement in the show?
Gurmit Singh: This project is one of my favourites to date. I liken it to playing a musical version of Cluedo, where the clues are sometimes helpful but sometimes absolutely ridiculously unhelpful 🙂 As a resident detective, my job is to help identify the good singers from the bad singers, with the ultimate goal of retaining a good singer for the final duet with a celebrity contestant or celebrity guest detective. But it is sooo difficult because all the mystery singers are so convincing at making us believe they are good singers.
3) How did you prepare for the filming of each episode of I Can See Your Voice?
Gurmit Singh: Well, I watched other countries’ versions of the show and picked up some tips on how to identify the bad singers. But to be honest, it’s still difficult, especially when the bad singers act so well and pretend to be good singers!
4) You are a father to three – could you share with us more about your parenting journey?
Gurmit Singh: Like any other parent out there, it’s been full of ups and downs. And that’s life, isn’t it? We learn as parents too. There’s no exact manual out there for us to reference. So, we cherish the good times, learn from the bad times, and keep moving forward—with love. Love is such an important ingredient in the whole parenthood mix.
5) How has your parenting style changed or differ among your children?
Gurmit Singh: Nope, all the same. Haha. The only difference is that with each child that came along, I felt less frantic about it. By the third child, we were as calm as a baby pacifier (yes, I made that up). Haha.
6) Going into 2025, are there any works we can expect from you? Or, what are some projects you hope to work on?
Gurmit Singh: There are some upcoming projects, but more details will be shared in due course. But please catch them, won’t you?
Yes, we are definitely excited to see more of Gurmit Singh’s projects in 2025, starting with I Can See Your Voice Singapore and his role as the resident celebrity detective in the show.
Starting 13 January 2025, viewers can catch I Can See Your Voice Singapore every Monday at 7.30pm on Channel 5, with simulcast available on mewatch. The episodes will also be available on demand on mewatch and Mediacorp Entertainment on YouTube.
