The production features a cast of over 70 actors, dancers, and musicians, bringing to life a story inspired by the evolution of Mongolian culture. With themes of jealousy, mistaken identity, adultery, rivalry, sacrifice, succession, and power struggles, this classic tragedy culminates in an epic battle for the future of the Hunnic Empire.

An International Collaboration
The production of The Mongol Khan is the result of a collaboration between an international team of world-renowned artists and creatives, including Tony-nominated playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker, Olivier and Tony Award-winning designer Nick Barnes, and prolific historian and travel writer John Man, an expert in Mongolian history and culture.
Rich Historical Inspirations
Originally written in 1998 by renowned Mongolian writer and poet Lkhagvasuren Bavuu and revived in April 2022 at the Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Drama, The Mongol Khan draws inspiration from various historical events, archaeological findings, traditional nomadic dances, and the music of the ancient Hun culture of Central Asia from the period of the Hunnic Empire. Produced by Bayra Bela (Amazon’s The Power, Netflix’s Marco Polo) and directed by esteemed Mongolian director Hero Baatar, this production promises to be a memorable event.
