Interview with Yazed Osman, Group Head, Events & Placemaking, Singapore Sports Hub
1) What are the family-friendly activities that parents and children can look forward to participate at HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens?
Yazed Osman: Dubbed the “Family Sevens”, you can expect a multi-sensory experience filled with power-packed rugby action, exciting fringe activities for kids, gastronomical delights, and energetic entertainment acts for everyone.
For starters, there will be a Singapore Sevens Easter Egg Hunt for families and kids around our venue. We also have plenty of water activities for those who want to beat the heat, including a Lazy River and the Stingray, a 12-meter long surf simulator. Singapore Sports Hub’s water park – Splash-N-Surf will also be available for families to enjoy. Kids and parents alike will get to meet various Rugby ambassadors during the meet-and-greet sessions. Last but not least, there will be exciting live music from local musicians 53A, Jack & Rai, 10.seconds, Reverie, Nation One and Sambiesta, and DJs EPIMACO, XEN, The Professor and SIRKID that cater to fans of pop, rock, and electronic music.
2) How do you plan and coordinate the various elements of the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens, including the food vendors, and entertainment activities?
Yazed Osman: Singapore Sports Hub is committed to delivering a world-class experience for patrons and spectators. Running an event of this scale requires massive coordination with different teams, stakeholders, and vendors. A big part of this is coordination involving F & B, games and activities, live performances and ancillary sporting events to ensure we’re creating a multi-sensory experience across facilities, such as the National Stadium, 100PLUS Promenade and OCBC Square.
3) What are the food offerings available that foodies can look forward to enjoy?
Yazed Osman: Spectators will be able to enjoy a host of delicious food and beverage options starting from 6 April at 5pm at the OCBC Square. Frozt and The Travelling C.O.W. (Chef on Wheels) will be offering everything from juicy burgers and chips to nostalgic popsicles. Spectators and patrons can also head next door to Kallang Wave Mall to fuel up!
4) Can you describe and share some of the unique engagement opportunities that you have organized for fans and spectators of every age for HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens?
Yazed Osman: In the lead up to the exciting slew of activities during the match weekend, we organised outreach and engagement activities including clinics with Rugby Ambassadors. There will even be a fun captain’s get-together at Lau Pa Sat on 5 April at lunch time. All 16 Rugby captains will try their hand at making teh tarik and ice kachang and the public can catch them in action!
5) Lastly, what would you like to say to our readers who are looking forward to bring their family and children to HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens?
Yazed Osman: We look forward to welcoming our patrons and rugby fans to the iconic National Stadium for an exciting Family Sevens this year! This year’s edition promises an immersive, multi-sensory and action-packed experience with truly something for everyone.
