As we usher in the Year of the Snake, there’s no better time to get acquainted with the scaly residents at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve! From 28 January to 12 February 2025, gather your friends and family to learn about the fascinating abilities of snakes and the important role they play in balancing our ecosystem, as well as receive auspicious greetings for a prosperous year ahead.
The upcoming Lunar New Year activities include opportunities for guests to meet reptile ambassadors such as the vibrant Honduran milk snake at RepTopia in Singapore Zoo. Photo credit: Mandai Wildlife Group
From day to night, get transported into the amazing world of star reptiles through scheduled Keeper Talk sessions featuring the king cobra at Singapore Zoo, the green anaconda at River Wonders as well as the cave racer and carpet python at Night Safari. Did you know that snakes generally prefer to stay still and camouflage with their environment to protect themselves? Discover fun facts from their care team such as the king cobra being the longest venomous snake in the world, and the cave racer having the impressive ability to move along cave walls.
Guests also get the chance to observe the king cobra feeding, and the cave racer and carpet python engaging in enrichment, or activities that keep them mentally and physically stimulated. See their mighty senses in action as they flick their tongue to “taste” the air and detect prey. Snakes eat their food whole without chewing, and it can take days or weeks for them to fully digest a meal! For up-close encounters, don’t miss meet-and-greet sessions with ambassador species like the Honduran milk snake at Singapore Zoo’s RepTopia – this brightly coloured snake resembles the venomous coral snake as a defence mechanism.
Take your adventure further by challenging yourself to digital quizzes at Singapore Zoo and River Wonders, or a scavenger hunt at Bird Paradise. You can find out how many live young female green anacondas can produce, get a refresher on Lunar New Year customs and learn how weaver birds protect themselves against predators like snakes. Stand to redeem gifts for extra festive cheer!
Scale new heights in the brand new year with auspicious greetings at animal presentations, rousing lion dance performances and the chance to meet the God of Fortune, as well as zoo-diac prediction displays for a glimpse into the year ahead. What’s more, the first 188 guests to enter any of our wildlife parks on select days will receive an exclusive Mandai Wildlife Reserve zodiac “gold coin”.
Local residents with the free WildPass digital membership can enjoy up to 20 percent off admission to the parks at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve. Join Friends of Wildlife community at 15 percent off and receive a unique red packet set. For more information on the Lunar New Year activities, please visit www.wildcny.sg.
