Safari Zoo Run 2018 is back! This year, it is even more special, as it will be celebrating its 10th anniversary! Runners, are you excited? We are definitely excited!
If you are new to Safari Zoo Run, the run was first started in memory of Singapore Zoo’s famous matriarch and one of Singapore’s most loved animal personalities, Ah Meng the Sumatran orangutan. In addition to commemorate Ah Meng, Safari Zoo Run aims to encourage family bonding and raise awareness on wildlife conservation.
What to expect in Safari Zoo Run 2018:
This year, runners can look forward to expecting more at the 10th Anniversary of Safari Zoo Run 2018. Safari Zoo Run is proud to feature 4 animal icons and they are Ah Meng the Orangutan, Chawang the Asian Elephant, Canola the Manatee and Sunny the Hornbill.
The theme “Run for Wildlife” focuses on raising awareness for wildlife conservation. Each animal icon team supports an endangered wildlife species that the zoo would like to raise awareness for. We’ve already decided to join Team Chawang! Simply because they support the conservation of the critically endangered Sunda Pangolin. Sadly, these are the world’s most trafficked mammals! We’ve seen some news of them in Singapore we just want to do our part in raising awareness by joining Team Chawang!

Every year, we look forward to participating in the run as a family. Last year, the Safari Zoo Run 2017’s theme “Run for Wildlife” focused on raising awareness for wildlife conservation. We joined Ah Meng the Orangutan team as the kids have heard so much about Ah Meng, the iconic animal that represented Singapore from schools. For the last year run, Ah Meng team came up top and received an additional funding support of $40,000 for Sumatran orangutan projects. The rest of the team received an additional $20,000 each to regional projects supporting Helmeted Hornbills, Southeast Asian Freshwater Turtles and Sumatran Elephants. This year, let’s do our part to participate in the run and support the 4 animal icons!
Our children love animals and visiting the zoo has always been one of our favourite things to do as a family. Participating in the run is meaningful for us to spend quality time together and at the same time do our part to create awareness and support the conservation of wildlife in Singapore! With the Safari Zoo Run, our kids learn more about the endangered wildlife species and how important it is to protect our environment.
Parents, do keep a watchful eye over your kids during the run. We will run together as a family and keep pace with one another. If your child is much younger, it is best to hold his/her hand and run together. If you notice that your kid is experiencing any discomfort during the run, do stop the run immediately and take a break or seek medical help from the staff.
Another enjoyable part of participating in Safari Zoo Run that is unique and different from other running events is that you will get to observe and see various animals along the way. Among the many animals that you will see are free ranging Orang Utans, Chimpanzee, Mandrill, Giraffe, Zebra and many more! This make the run even more interesting!
This year, participants are encouraged to help raise awareness for the endangered animals that their team is supporting by taking part in the team Instagram contest from now till the race day.
