Safari Zoo Run 2017 is finally here! This year, Safari Zoo Run 2017’s theme is on “Run for Wildlife” which focuses on raising awareness for wildlife conservation. The run will feature 4 animal icons. They are Ah Meng the Orangutan, Chawang the Asian Elephant, Canola the Manatee and Sunny the Hornbill. Each animal icon team supports an endangered wildlife species that the zoo would like to raise awareness for.
We have been looking forward to participate in the run. Early in the morning, we reached the zoo excitedly and can’t wait to start the run. The whole zoo was crowded with participants consisting of running enthusiastic, couples and families.
Safari Zoo Run 2017 is so popular! We met so many of our friends and it is really nice catching up with our friends and participating in the run together.
This year, Safari Zoo Run enables participants to play a more active role as they get to select which animal icon team, Ah Meng the Orangutan, Chawang the Asian Elephant, Canola the Manatee and Sunny the Hornbill to join.
We chose to join Ah Meng the Orangutan. Each of the animal icon team represents a species of critically endangered animal, based on a new points system, participants of each team will help to collect points for their team and in turn will determine the amount of funds being allocated. The team with the highest points will receive the larger amount of funds being allocated to the conversation of the endangered species that they represented.
The enjoyable part of participating in Safari Zoo Run is you can get to observe and see various animals along the way. Among the many animals that we have seen is White Tiger, Free Ranging Orang Utans, Chimpanzee, Mandrill, Giraffe, Zebra and many more! This make the run even more interesting.
The two boys had so much fun running along the route, the older boy has longer legs and he ran way ahead to the finishing line while the little boy happily ran with us to the finishing line together.
Congratulations! Ah Meng team came up top and received an additional funding support of $40,000 for Sumatran orangutan projects. The rest of the team will receive an additional $20,000 each to regional projects supporting Helmeted Hornbills, Southeast Asian Freshwater Turtles and Sumatran Elephants.
Yay! We have completed the run together with our family! We had an enjoyable time at Safari Zoo Run and we look forward to take part in next year run!
