Eclectic Art Installations, Minmed Cycle Pop-up and Candlelight Christmas Concerts Inspired by Joe Hisaishi at S.E.A. Aquarium
S.E.A. Aquarium (S.E.A. 海洋馆) has collaborated with neurodivese multidisciplinary collective Superhero Me to present A Christmas Oddysea, featuring five local artists. These artists and their young collaborators, including students from Rainbow Centre embarked on an endeavour to re-imagine a ‘Christmas home’ for some of the marine animals within the aquarium by decorating the habitats’ exteriors.
One such artist is Kenneth Chin, a deaf photographer and wildlife illustrator, whose profound love for wildlife and veterinary technology led him to work as a sea jelly aquarist at S.E.A. Aquarium before venturing into freelance illustration. He pushed his artistic capabilities together with his 11-year-old collaborator Fong Git Yu, who has autism, to meaningfully decorate the outer habitat of the sprawling green brittle star, the spiky longnose hawkfish and the nimble camel shrimp, with beautiful structures of wood and light. Art therapist Wan Xiang and 16-year-old collaborator Harshini D’Silva Terrace created a playful installation featuring of one of the most eye-catching fishes in the ocean, the
vibrantly coloured wrasses. Guests can spot them at the Hard Corals habitat, before they explore the rest of S.E.A. Aquarium to find more artistic hidden gems dreamt up by homegrown artists and their young collaborators from Rainbow Centre.
Exciting Christmas activities await guests at S.E.A. Aquarium as well. Every Thursday evening from 30 November to 21 December, visitors can immerse themselves in the epic Minmed Cycle Pop-up @S.E.A. Aquarium, which will take place before the picturesque Open Ocean Habitat. On 29 December, S.E.A. Aquarium welcomes the crowd favourite Candlelight Concerts where the orchestra will be performing music by Joe Hisaishi in two sessions at 7.30pm and 9.30pm. These fitness and entertainment events afford guests a guilt-free Christmas experience, a perfect counterbalance to hearty Christmas feasts.
The Minmed Cycle Pop-up @ S.E.A. Aquarium costs $35 per ticket. A special Ocean Wonderland Package is also available at $55 for adults and $45 for children. The package includes an admission ticket to S.E.A. Aquarium and VibranSEA, a reusable glow-up cup with a choice of soft drink, a $5 retail voucher and an Ocean Series Ice Cream. Lastly, the S.E.A. Aquarium V.I.P. experience costs $145.
