Imaginarium: To The Ends of the Earth is one of Singapore Art Museum’s (SAM) most popular exhibitions is back in its seventh edition!
This is an annual family-focused contemporary art exhibition where it invites visitors to take a closer look at our surroundings and the environment we reside in. The exhibition is open from 6 May – 27 August 2017.
This year edition is a whimsical introduction to stories and ideas about our land and surroundings, both real and imagine. Featuring immersive, tactile and interactive artworks by nine contemporary artists, there remains much more to learn about the Earth’s magnificent marvels, with the closest adventure a possible stone’s throw away!
Parents, bring your kids to Imaginarium where it will open your eyes and be fascinated with the wonderful world of contemporary art!
Here’s some of the magnificent artworks that we have seen:
Another Island by Nipan Oranniwesna, this interesting installation is embedded in the floor showcasing 598 photographs of Singapore, each encased in a tiny bubble.
The Origin: The Tree and Me & The Unborn by Nandita Mukand is inspired by the old trees along Singapore’s East Coast Park, The Tree and Me. This creative installation is made of newspapers coloured with natural dyes such as henna, turmeric and coffee which stretches out within the space.
Floating Mountain by Unchalee Anantawat, this beautiful and stunning creation is inspired by one of many imaginary landscapes that the artist Unchalee has explored in her dreams.
There are various hands-on activities at the exhibition and at this station, the boys get to work on making their own Floating Mountain.
LICENSE2DRAW by UuDam Tran Nguyen is a popular installation with both adults and kids as they get to play with the robotic drawing machine. You can move the machine which will drag the marker pen across a sprawling canvas. It is operated via the L2D application downloaded onto mobile phones. LICENSE2DRAW can be accessed and activated from anywhere in the world, highlighting how our once vast and uncharted world has now become ‘accessible’ with one simple ‘click’. This installation is fun and innovative!
In addition, visitors can look forward to a series of artist workshops, toddler art workshops (every Tuesday and Saturday) and curator-led tours.
