DBS has returned as the presenting sponsor of i Light Singapore 2023, the foremost eco-friendly light festival in Asia, happening from 1 to 25 June! This further strengthens DBS’ continuous endeavours in and around the Marina Bay area to contribute to the community. It includes their recent establishment of a long-term collaboration with Esplanade to offer a wider range of opportunities for individuals to explore and express themselves.
This year, DBS encourages attendees of the festival to “Ignite Your Spark” by unleashing their potential and making positive contributions towards creating and helping to shape a better, brighter world. Festival attendees can anticipate engaging games centered on themes such as self-care, sustainable living and preparedness for the future. Moreover, there will be captivating visual installations, perfect for Instagram-worthy moments, which will later be repurposed and recycled. Additionally, stage performances by local talents who have overcome disabilities will showcase their remarkable brilliance, alongside other enriching encounters.
Embark on the DBS passport journey
At the heart of the “Ignite Your Spark” experience is the DBS passport, which can be easily accessed by scanning a QR code using their mobile phones. This will initiate an interactive journey where participants will be encouraged to acquire four digital stamps on their DBS passport by participating in various activities at Blumiwave and within the DBS Zone.
Individuals who successfully complete the challenge will have the opportunity to win DBS merchandise (limited quantities available) and, in alignment with the bank’s goal of inspiring the community to promote collective welfare, they will also be able to give back. Through a collaboration between DBS and Food from the Heart, each completion of the DBS Passport challenge will contribute towards supporting meal donations to families in need.
DBS presents ‘Blumiwave’ artwork – to be recycled in ‘NEWBitumen’ for eco-roads after the festival
Festival attendees can embark on their journey with Blumiwave at Mist Walk, an art installation designed to raise awareness about blue energy, an alternative renewable energy source extracted from the sea and river waters. Local artists from DP Design have crafted Blumiwave, featuring sculptural waves made from a skillfully woven fabric of safety nets and scaffolding repurposed from construction sites. Through this transformation, the team turns what is typically considered unsightly materials into a space that encourages diverse interpretations of the ordinary and its potential.
In the spirit of giving discarded materials a fresh opportunity, all plastics utilized in constructing Blumiwave will be recycled by Magorium after the festival. Supported by DBS Foundation, Magorium is a social enterprise that converts plastic waste into a sustainable construction material called ‘NEWBitumen’, suitable for eco-friendly road paving. ‘NEWBitumen’ was also employed in paving the driveway of DBS Newton Green, Singapore’s pioneering net zero building by a bank.
DBS Zone at GastroBeats – for fun games, immersive experiences, and inspirational performances by local talents!
Next, make your way to the DBS Zone located at the core of GastroBeats, the festival village of i Light Singapore, where a captivating range of activities awaits you – and the best part is, they are all completely free to enjoy!
The DBS Zone offers a variety of exciting attractions. One of the key highlights is Find Your Spark, where festival attendees can experience the glamour of the red carpet with the Glambot camera, capturing cinematic, slow-motion video reels. This remarkable opportunity, akin to the Oscars, is the first of its kind available to the public in Singapore. To find the most brilliant sparks in the room, DBS will also host a social media contest, inviting participants to share their Glambot videos on Instagram with a creative caption about self-love. The top three entries will be awarded an Apple Watch SE each, valued at SGD 380.
If you’re in the mood for games, gather your friends and family for Eco Row and Glow, where teamwork and physical strength will be put to the test as you power rowing machines to illuminate an installation. Alternatively, challenge your reflexes and financial acumen at Money Matchmaker and Made for Travel, where quick thinking and problem-solving skills are essential.
Parents with young children need not worry! Visit the POSB Money Smarts play zone, a dedicated area where kids can have fun while learning about money matters. Specially designed digital artboards and animations will stimulate their creativity and engagement.
Galvanising collective action towards a better, more inclusive, and sustainable society
Being a purpose-driven bank, DBS will collaborate with businesses that share similar goals and community partners during the month-long festival. Together, they will transform DBS’s vision of creating a more inclusive, sustainable, and improved society into a reality.
Every Friday and Saturday, from 6pm to 7pm, DBS will present captivating live performances by local talents who embody resilience and triumph over life’s challenges. From mesmerizing jazz and classical piano recitals to dynamic drumming performances, soulful pop music, and enchanting soprano acts, festival attendees are in for a treat as these remarkable individuals showcase what it means to be a hero.
Ento Industries, a DBS Foundation-supported business for impact, will serve as GastroBeats’ partner in addressing food waste. With the help of their Black Soldier Flies, all food waste collected from festival goers and vendors at GastroBeats will be transformed into high-value products such as animal feed and fertilizers through Ento Industries’ innovative processes.
Discover the world of sustainable fashion at the DBS Zone. Festival goers can enhance their Glambot videos with accessories from Fashion Pulpit, a social enterprise dedicated to promoting environmental education and awareness in the fashion industry. Fashion Pulpit will also showcase upcycled looks on mannequins, creating a visually captivating display at the ‘Find Your Spark’ booth.
