GE TAI in another word means song stage 歌台 which is usually performed during the Hungry Ghost Festival and other Chinese Festivals in Singapore consisting of live concert with mostly performers belting out high energy and hits songs in striking colourful costumes and props.
Resorts World Sentosa is proud to present its first original Chinese theatrical production, GE TAI – The Musical, featuring many famous and familiar faces from the local and international entertainment scene, melding a heartwarming story with fun, catchy songs right in the comfort of its grand Theatre from 20 April to 29 May 2016.
GE TAI – The Musical explores the ups and downs of Ge Tai in Singapore. Taiwanese artiste, Hao Hao 皓皓 starred as “Shen Yi Fei” a newcomer from overseas who came to Singapore to join the local Ge Tai and was faced with prejudice and discrimination from the local performers. Desmond Ng 黄振隆 starred as “Liu Zheng Wen” who is one of the leads and a local Ge Tai’s crowd-favourite. He is an inspiration to “Shen Yi Fei” who also faced the same situation back in the 1980s.
The musical was set in two different eras, one which is our current timeline and audience will also travel back to the 1980s to experience what is Ge Tai then. Audience can look forward to see Ge Tai stars like Desmond Ng, Hao Hao, Lin You Fa, Bao Bei Sisters and Tay Ying Ying performing together. The musical is in a mix of English, Chinese, Hokkien and Cantonese. Be prepared to be mesmerized with many catchy songs like the popular Hokkien song, Fight to Win (爱拼才会赢). The songs are belted out by the singers in their dazzling and colourful costumes.

GE TAI – The Musical where the high energy of a Chinese live concert meets the drama of musical theatre. This musical is a mixture of comedy, songs, dances in a vibrant, dazzling and colourful settings written by Jonathan Lim. Throughout the 90 minutes musical, audience will rediscover the magic of Ge Tai, and embark on this exciting musical journey while watching the musical.
In addition, in collaboration between Singapores Ge Tai celebrities and local musical theatre creators will feature weekly special appearances by international stars: Zhuang Xue Zhong 莊学忠, Sakura Teng樱花, Yang Xiao Ping 杨小萍, Zhang Di 张帝, Cai Qiu Feng 蔡秋凤, Qing Shan青山.
