Pneumococcal disease is a serious disease in children. There is now a pneumococcal vaccine available for children in Singapore and Malaysia. This vaccine can help to prevent pneumococcal infection which affects not only the lung but also the ear.
Infection of the ear can cause long-term hearing impairment which will impair the learning ability of the child. Thus it is important for children to be vaccinated against pneumococcal disease.
