Media Invite: British Council Open House
Our Parenting World team was invited to attend British Council Open House recently. Many of us thought that British Council is located at Napier Road Centre at the British High Commission. But not many people know that they also have other educational centres located at Toa Payoh, Marsiling, Tampines and Katong.
British Council has been in Singapore for many years since 1947. Our team member, Virginia has the honour of being selected as British Council’s brand model some years back after completing her studies in UK.
Reading lesson with Teacher Lia
At British Council Open House, the session started with a reading class for the children while the parents were briefed on the methodology of their English classes ranging from pre-school all the way to GCE A-level. Unlike other tuition centres which focus mainly on the examination syllabus, the language programme at British Council provides more holistic education on the English language while still follow closely to the school syllabus. This also include oral and presentation skills.
Kids learn to choose the right Phonics sounds and putting what they have learnt into practice.
British Council’s Pre-School Enrichment Programmes focus on improving early literacy and oral communication skills for learners between the ages of 3 and 6.
Through its interactive class environment, the courses help children develop literacy skills as well as build confidence and socialisation skills for successful transition to Primary school.
Story reading session
During the session, we find that the lesson are visually stimulating and interactive, children are engaged throughout the lesson. We can see that our boy has enjoyed himself at the session! He told us that he has learnt a lot from Teacher Matt and Lia.
