In the history of Singapore comedy, without a doubt the most popular local comedy must have been “Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd” which ran on our television screens for 8 seasons from 1997 to 2007. The show revolved around Phua Chu Kang, the yellow boots contractor starring Gurmit Singh.
When the show ended, many of us were sad not to see Gurmit Singh in a regular comedy slot as he is considered one of the most popular comedians in Singapore. In fact, he is equally popular in Malaysia, having starred in the Malaysian version titled “Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd” with another Malaysian comedian Harith Iskandar.
Now Gurmit Singh is back in this exciting and funny role of “Hero Singh” in the upcoming show “Laugh Die You” which will be performed at Resorts World Sentosa for two nights only, Sat 9 July and Sun 10 July.
In addition to Gurmit Singh. another well-known comedian from Singapore is our own drag queen Kumar who used to perform at the Boom Boom Room previously. The show also featured the very popular Joanne Kam and the rock group Hydra from Malaysia.
The same show which was called “Laugh Die You 3 – The Karaoke” was recently performed in Malaysia and judging from the response there, we have no doubt that it will be equally well received in Singapore.
