{Media Invite and Shrek The Musical Review}
Our favourite green ogre, Shrek is here!
If you have watched the highly popular, mega-hit DreamWorks Animation Films series on “Shrek”, you will definitely love Shrek The Musical. Featuring all your favourite characters from the “Shrek” movies including Donkey, Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad, Pinocchio, and many more, you will be able to see them up close and live in action performing in Singapore for the very first time as part of its first ever international tour. It will be showing in Singapore for a limited season from 8 June till 19 June 2016!
Princess Fiona is locked up in a castle tower guarded by Lava and a Dragon waiting to be rescued by a brave knight whom she has been dreaming for.
Lindsay Estelle Dunn portrayed the feisty and headstrong Princess Fiona well with her strong powerful vocals expressing her yearning for the knight she has been dreaming for and mellowing down to accept Shrek as her true love.
In a far away kingdom, Shrek The Musical is a live adaption from the movie. Shrek’s solitude was disturbed when the fairytale-hating Lord Farquaad exiled many of the fairytale characters to his swamp where he lived. Shrek agreed to help the fairytale characters to tell Lord Farquaad to send them back and in turn Lord Farquaad asked Shrek to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from the castle tower. Shrek’s adventure begins where he befriended the talking donkey that can’t stop chatting. Shrek managed to rescue Princess Fiona, she is happy to be rescued but soon disappointed when Shrek reveals that he is an ogre. It is a story full of humour, laughter, even though full of fairytale misfits and mess but all turn out right in the end!
There is a big element of surprise, everyone especially kids are excited to see the Dragon! It is huge and lifelike, the voice behind the Dragon, the songs were beautifully sang by Grace Leszynski. Another highlight of the musical is none other than the villain, Lord Farquaad wonderfully performed by Christian Marriner who will be 4 feet tall for this musical. He has to strap his real legs behind him hidden by a black curtain and yet he can walk, run and even do high-kicking dancing!
Audience would love Kyle Timson as Shrek and Jared Howelton as Donkey, both their performances are captivating and they have such good chemistry just like in the movies. Shrek is lovable as the green ogre outcast and Donkey is very funny and full of energy, he keeps talking much to the irritation of Shrek.
It is a colourful musical with stunning costumes, well crafted show that has 60 scene changes against a 10m x 6m LED Wall and props that flow seamlessly and full of songs and dances, there is never a dull moment. If you love the movies, you will love this musical too. This is a musical that is suitable for everyone to enjoy!
Our Parenting World team is very honoured to be able to interview “Shrek” portrayed by Kyle Timson and “Donkey” portrayed by Jared Howelton.
Kyle Timson shared that his role as Shrek is more of a storyteller as this is his show after all. He loves telling story, he has a lot of fun doing the show and he enjoys it. They have a good time on stage. His transformation to Shrek is done by their makeup supervisor Lauren and it takes 1 and 1/2 hour to get him all Shrek out. His favourite part of the musical is the ending, it is a nice fairy tale ending with a great message at the end that everyone can learn to love themselves and you can find someone for yourself no matter what you look like even if you look like Shrek.
Jared Howelton shared that his role can be very difficult as he needs to bounce around everywhere singing and dancing. Even though it can be exhausting but it really fun and the audience will always give them a lot of feedback and they enjoy doing the show. His makeup takes about 1/2 hour as compared to Shrek. However his costume is not easy to wear, the difficult part of his costume is the heat, he keeps himself hydrated by drinking lots of water and using fans to cool him down. His two favourite scenes in the musical is the part on “Ogres are like onions” and “I Think I’ve Got You Beat” you have to see the show to find out why they are his favourites, it is very funny!
Both Kyle Timson and Jared Howelton shared that this is their first time in Singapore and they are very excited. They are looking forward to explore Singapore more and to try out local food. Jared has actually tried out stingray which he finds is really good and he wanted to visit Singapore Flyer to see the whole city and Kyle Timson wanted to visit Singapore Botanic Gardens.
Kyle Timson and Jared Howelton would like to encourage parents and children to come watch “Shrek The Musical”, it is fun, bright, big, humour, full of music just like the movie “Shrek”, it is the musical for everyone not just for the kids but also for the adults. Come see the show, Shrek The Musical!
Thank you to Kyle Timson and Jared Howelton, fabulous cast of Shrek The Musical for taking our interviews! We wish them, everyone from Shrek The Musical cast and team all the best and have a wonderful time in Singapore!
