Young talents unleash creativity to innovate toys at the Sony Creative Science Award 2013

Our Parenting World are happy to share with you that Singaporeans young are getting more and more creative. Recently, the Sony Creative Science Award (SCSA) held unique competition where primary school students get to unleash creativity and hone their thinking skills to design and develop their own toys based on some scientific principles.

This compeition is into its 16th year already and it aims to promote creativity and innovation among students. To transform their learning of science into an enjoyable experience. Not only does it encourage imaginative play, it also complements what children learn in school.

Here are some of the creative toys submitted to the competition:

There are two categories of awards, ScizKid Award and WhizKid Award. To participate in the ScizKid Award, a student had to create a safe and sturdy toy based on a scientific principle while for the WhizKid Award, they had to invent a toy that rocks, rolls or wobbles when played with.

This year’s competition saw more than 4200 toys received from 96 primary schools. The award ceremony was held at the Science Centre on the 24 July. The event was opened by Mdm Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament,  A/Prof Lim Tit Meng, Chief Executive, Science Centre Singapore and Mr Hidekazu (Henry) Kudo, Regional Chief Financial Officer, Sony Electronics, Asia Pacific.

Here are the winners for the WhizKid Award: 

1-Whizkid Category 1st Prize, Ashutosh Menon Rajeevst

SCSA is an annual competition, jointly organised by the Science Centre Singapore and Sony Electronics Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).
