Event Listing: Music For A Cause 2017 (MFAC17)
Following the success of its debut in June 2016, Singapore’s first ever social cause music festival returns with a bigger lineup of bands and beneficiaries. Organized by Love Action Project; Music for a Cause 2017 is presented by title sponsor FRANK by OCBC and hosted on campus by Venue and Event Partner, Singapore Management University on 21st and 22nd January 2017. Powered by Sponsor, the National Youth Council, the festival aims to raise awareness and funds for a total of eight featured social causes, up from five at MFAC16.
Social Causes confirmed to date for Music for a Cause 2017 are; Actions for Singapore Dogs (ASD), Beyond Social Services, Blessings in a Bag, Canossaville Children’s Home, Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter (OSCAS) and The Food Bank Singapore. The featured social causes will each have a dedicated booth allocated to share its story, raise funds, and call for volunteers to support its programs.
The objectives of MFAC17 are;
i) Raise awareness as well as funds for the featured social cause
ii) Provide an avenue for local bands to give back to society
iii) Support the spirit of local entrepreneurship
iv) Provide a platform for public to engage and contribute to social causes in Singapore
FRANK by OCBC is a programme for young people (16-29 year olds) to learn more about financial literacy and life skills without losing their sense of adventure. Their vision of celebrating youth achievements through entrepreneurship and community work represents the synergy it provides as a title sponsor to MFAC17, supporting all things local and enterprising: music, entrepreneurship and social causes.
“We recognise a growing inclination towards social entrepreneurship amongst youths. FRANK by OCBC embodies this spirit, and this is why we decided to partner with Love Action Project for Music for a Cause. We know that youths desire the platform to express their individuality through their passions, and we like the idea of a music festival, organised by youths, for youths, to support social causes. This is a unique event in Singapore that embodies youths’ self-expression, and we are keen to be part of this movement, driving and supporting initiatives close to their hearts,” said Ms Genevieve Gay, Head of Youth Segment, Advertising and Branding, OCBC Bank.
Singapore Management University (SMU) is the first university in Singapore to require its students to include community service as part of its multi-disciplinary holistic education. With its University for the City initiative, SMU extends its impact on community through creative collaborations with its partners. MFAC’s vision and mission to support social causes and local music is in perfect alignment with the university’s thrust for effecting real change in the city.
The National Youth Council is also instrumental in supporting the festival as it provides different touch points where young Singaporeans can connect with other like-minded peers to fulfil their aspirations in music, as well as give back to the community.
