Academy of Rock Pte Ltd (AOR) announces the official launch of its social campaign, #LOVEYOURSIBLING on 22nd of November 2019, Friday at The Star Loft, The Star Performing Arts Centre. This launch will be graced by Guest-of-Honour, Ms. Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore CDC and President of Autism Resource Centre (Singapore).
A significant event for AOR and the community, this social campaign is three-pronged:
- Create awareness and promote mutual understanding, acceptance and strong bonding for siblings with their brothers and/or sisters with SEND
- Build a healthy and engaging support system for the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) community with AOR SEND Music Education Programme
- Offer AOR Music Scholarships (for individual SEND students or with their siblings)
Observation studies by AOR revealed that our society’s awareness and support towards SEND are still lacking as most campaigns or programmes are geared towards the parents and guardians (adults) of SEND families.

AOR is offering 5 pairs of siblings an invitation to the official launch on 22 November 2019 and also one (1) month of FREE lessons at AOR of the instrument of their choice.
Interested participants are to post a photo of or with their SEND sibling and share 3 things about them. Alternatively, they can share a song that connects the both of them as siblings and explain their choice. This can be done in either video or photo format. All entries must tag @loveyoursibling and include #LOVEYOURSIBLING and #loveyoursiblingAOR in their captions. The winners will be chosen at random.

‘Cute and Special’ is a special song written, composed and sung by Theron Lim Yu Xiang (20 years old). This song is very close to Theron’s heart which he wrote about his youngest brother, Valenciano who is autistic. He seeks to express his complex feelings towards Valenciano, projecting the whimsical world only his brother can understand and the realities of connecting to him as a sibling. The music video will be officially launched at #LOVEYOURSIBLING Launch Event. This indie folk track will also be available for free download on Spotify and Apple Music from the 22nd November 2019 onwards.
Music Scholarships
#LOVEYOURSIBLING social campaign continues its purpose with music scholarships.
5 music scholarships will be awarded to support and encourage music learning for SEND children and to promote bonding between siblings of SEND through music. The scholarships will be offered to 3 individuals and 2 pairs of siblings.
The scholarship comprises 3 months worth of lessons of the student’s choice (worth up to $615 course), followed by subsequent subsidised fee of $150 per month. Half sharing of course fee on a 50-50 basis can also be arranged between the parent/guardian with any social organisations the SEND individual is associated with. Students on scholarship can select piano, guitar, keyboard, drums, bass or vocal training.
This scholarship will be available at the Goldhill Branch (all abilities) and the Holland Village branch (able-bodied only), with slots available from 10am to 2pm. These scholarships will be given to selected members of a non-profit organisation.
Ms Anjila Lim, Managing Director feels strongly for this campaign as she is also a SEND sibling. She shares, “The experiences of the siblings of SEND individuals have been overlooked, and thus we at AOR created this campaign for the sole purpose of furthering that awareness. We want to provide a sense of belonging and solidarity for siblings of SEND individuals where they can feel comfortable enough to share their experiences with fellow siblings, as well as bond with them and their own SEND brothers and sisters through the shared language of music”.
The supporting partners on board this campaign include Autism Resource Centre, Autism Association, Pathlight School and Eden School.

Update: Listen to this special song ‘Cute and Special’ officially launched on 22 November as part of #LOVEYOURSIBLING Love Your Sibling campaign. 20 yr old Theron Lim wrote this beautiful song for his 11 yr old autistic brother, Valenciano Lim. The song is about his guilt, uncertainty on how to relate with his younger brother.
Theron Lim’s music is a sophisticated blend of an array of genres and a showcase of his deep musical knowledge. His creations convey his feelings towards himself and his relationships as someone navigating through the nuances of everyday life. His form of honesty is best expressed through his orchestral-sounding contemporary arrangements fused with touching, memorable melodies. He is currently working on his upcoming releases which are expected to drop in 2020.
