Ring in the New Year the traditional Japanese way by immersing yourself in an exclusive line up of events at Liang Court from 26 December to 6 January. With activities ranging from a traditional taiko drum performance to a bento making workshop, there’s definitely something for everyone!

Kick-off Shogatsu with a bang on 1 January with a taiko drum performance by the Hibikiya Group, followed by a sake opening ceremony which symbolises an opening to harmony and good fortune. Stick around for a mochi pounding session to end off the day’s activities on a sweet note.

The festivities continue over the weekend with a roaring Shishimai performance to bring good luck for the year ahead. Then, get crafty and try your hand at making your very own Shogatsu souvenir at the onigiri card holder workshop**, bento making workshop**, or daruma beads coaster workshop**.

Don’t forget to snap a photo at the Japan New Year photo display located next to Dulcet & Studio for a chance to win $100 AsiaMalls vouchers. All you have to do is upload your photo onto Instagram (make sure your account is public), “Like” and tag @LiangCourt. The top 3 photos with the most number of likes wins!

What’s more, AMperkz members who spend a minimum of $150* ($300 at Medi-Ya Supermarket) can redeem a limited edition melamine plate featuring daruma dolls of different colours to symbolise perseverance and good luck. AMperkz members can also enjoy a free temporary Japan New Year tattoo at the Atrium on 1 and 5 January from 12pm to 3pm.
