Time flies, last year, we had a great time taking part in the Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR) and this year, we are glad to be part of Great Eastern Women’s Run 2018. Last year, during our last leg of the run, we were met with pouring heavy rain. This year, even though it was raining, it was manageable with drizzling rain most of the time and we were able to complete the route without looking for shelters.

This year marked GEWR’s 13th year in unifying women in health and fitness. This is Southeast Asia’s largest all-women run and runners will embark on a scenic new routes through some of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks and finishing the race at the National Stadium.

More than 14,000 women took part in the Great Eastern Women’s Run 2018 at Singapore Sports Hub and although it was raining, many of us were in high spirits and enjoying every moment.

We took part in the 5km run and was flagged off at 7:30am by Guest-of-Honour Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth. The event was also graced by Mr Lim Biow Chuan, Member of Parliament (Mountbatten) and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, as well as Great Eastern top management helmed by Group Chief Executive Officer Mr Khor Hock Seng.

The whole 5km route was a breeze to us and we were well-hydrated with 2 water stations and especially towards the last leg of the race, we had cold 100 Plus that refreshed us and perked us up to move on to the finishing line.

Finally we reached the finishing line, congratulations to all the women!

That’s more to look forward to after the race at the GEWR race village, participants can enjoy a variety of benefits like free drinks, ice creams, goodies offered by various booths, post-race massages, a powder room to freshen up and unique photo booths for Instagrammable photo opportunities. For the little ones, they can enjoy the bouncy castles, sculpted balloons, face painting and a specially created My Little Pony Garden, where they can get up close and personal with the magical ponies of the popular animated series.

This year is also Great Eastern’s 110th Birthday and Happy Birthday Great Eastern!

We absolutely love the Finisher Medal! Thank you Great Eastern’s Women Run, it has been fabulous run and we look forward to participate in next year run!

GEWR raised $51,500 in support of two women-related causes — Breast Cancer Foundation and Women’s Health Research and Education Fund. Participants chipped in by customising their race bibs and t-shirts, as well as bought colourful tutus in support of the causes.

Mr Keith Chia, Great Eastern’s Head of Group Brand and Marketing, commented, “We are delighted with the great turnout at our Great Eastern Women’s Run, a signature event under our LIVE GREAT programme. Our brand purpose as a LIFE company is to help empower the community to live healthier and better and this starts with our employees. Together with the 14,500 participants this year, 900 of our staff and financial representatives participated, a record number.

The Run has grown from strength to strength and we are pleased that so many women have embraced the importance of a healthy lifestyle. They are excellent ambassadors of our LIVE GREAT motto, championing healthier living to their family and friends.”
